The Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Rainscaping project, funded by an MSD Project Clear Rainscaping Grant, successfully retrofitted five rain garden bio-retentions on the church’s property. These bio-retentions, totaling approximately 2,645 square feet, were strategically designed to capture and manage nearly 1.5 million gallons of rainwater annually, diverting it from nearly five acres of proximate impervious surfaces.
This project directly aligned with Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church’s mission to foster “community health and reconciliation within their vibrant congregation.” By securing utility funding to implement a community-driven, multi-benefit green stormwater infrastructure retrofit, the project not only addressed critical stormwater management needs but also enhanced the church’s ability to serve as a hub for community well-being and environmental stewardship.
Two Alpha Contracting was honored to be the contractor for this impactful project. The Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Rainscaping project was recognized for its innovative approach and significant environmental benefits, earning it a place among Storm Water Solutions magazine’s 2022 Top Projects. This prestigious award highlights the year’s most creative and effective stormwater and erosion control projects, solidifying the project’s success and its contribution to sustainable community development.
