The Euclid #4130 and #4136 Bioretention CSO CR GI project, awarded to Two Alpha Contracting by the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) as part of their Project Clear initiatives, transformed two adjoining vacant lots into functional bioretention areas. These bioretentions were designed to capture and filter stormwater runoff, effectively turning underutilized spaces into valuable green infrastructure.
MSD’s design focused on creating systems that allow stormwater to infiltrate the soil through vegetation and specially engineered soil layers, thus improving water quality. Two Alpha Contracting successfully constructed the nearly 1,400 square foot bioretention areas and planted the sites with native plant species.
The project’s implementation yielded several key benefits:
- Water Quality Improvement: The bioretentions effectively filter pollutants such as sediment, nutrients, and heavy metals from stormwater runoff, contributing to cleaner waterways.
- Flood Mitigation: By slowing down the rate of runoff, these bioretentions help reduce peak stormwater flow, mitigating the risk of flooding.
- Aesthetic Enhancement: The integration of native plantings within the bioretention areas created attractive green spaces, enhancing the visual appeal of the neighborhood.
Two Alpha Contracting is proud to have contributed to MSD’s Project Clear initiative by constructing these bioretention areas, which provide significant environmental and community benefits.
